Fort Atkinson Department of Public Works employee Mike Kakuschke uses the city’s snowblower to move snow at the Fort Atkinson Municipal Airport Monday. Several of the city’s snow plows assisted to clean the parking areas and runway of the public general aviation airport, which, acting supervisor of the Department of Public Works Doug Yandry said, closes while plows clear snow, but is otherwise open 24/7. The 118-acre airport is located three miles northeast of Fort Atkinson. The airport’s only runway is 3,800 feet long. Statistics collected in 2018 and published online by Wikipedia note that the airport averaged during a 12-month period 10,900 aircraft operations, 98% of which were general aviation, 2% were air taxi, and less than 1% were military. In December of 2020, 26 aircraft were reported to be based at the airport.
