The following events and activities have been canceled or postponed to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

• The Baby Shower Fundraiser for Trudy's Room in Fort Atkinson, slated for March 28, has been postponed for an undetermined amount of time.

• The Madison Classics Spring Car Show and Swap Meet at the Jefferson County Fair Park, slated for April 24-26, has been canceled.

• St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Fort Atkinson is closed until at least April 6.

• The Cornerstone of Hope thrift store in Fort Atkinson is closed until at least April 6.

• The Second Harvest Catholic Charities Mobile Pantry still will take place Thursday, April 9, in Fort Atkinson.

Onsite coordinator Bill Roberts said that the pantry will take place from 2 to 3:45 p.m., or as long as the foodsupply lasts, in the parking lot of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, procedures have been altered. Attendees will be asked to remain in their cars. Each will receive an identical pre-packed box of groceries.

Participants who signed up last month should arrive at their appointed times. However, no pre-registration is required, so the public is welcome during the abovementioned hours.

• The Fort Atkinson Lions Club has canceled its meetings until further notice. That includes those slated for March 23 and April 13 and 27.

• The American Legion Post 166 Annual Fishing Derby in Fort Atkinson scheduled for June 6 has been canceled. As this derby is organized around the statewide free fishing weekend and could not take place without the help of sponsors, it will not be rescheduled for this year.

The fishing derby will be back on the calendar the first weekend in June in 2021.

• The Fort Atkinson High School Interact club has postponed its pancake breakfast slate for April 5.

• The Paul Frank Florine American Legion Auxiliary Unit 166 of Fort Atkinson is canceling the unit’s regular April meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 1.

• The Jefferson County American Legion Auxiliary scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, is postponed. The rescheduled date is to be determined.

 The American Legion Auxiliary 2nd District Conference scheduled for Saturday April 25, in Port Washington is postponed. The rescheduled date is to be determined.

• The Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1879 of Fort Atkinson has canceled its Thursday night, April 2, meeting.

The VFW Clubhouse on Veterans Lane is closed until further notice. No breakfasts or meetings are being held for the time being.

• The Robin's Nest hair salons in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, Watertown and Whitewater will be closed after Saturday, March 21, until further notice.

• McCullough's Prescriptions and Gifts in Whitewater has closed its retail pharmacy and gift department. All retail prescription files have been transferred to Walgreens, located at 1041 W. Main St., Whitewater. The telephone number is (262) 472-0238.

The retail prescription files from McCullough's in Walworth will be transferred to Delavan.

McCullough's Long-Term Care (LTC) Pharmacy in Whitewater will continue to serve the residents of skilled nursing and assisted living communities, but will not be open to the general public.

• The Royal Order of Jacks has canceled its March 26 meeting at its Fort Atkinson clubhouse. In addition, the club's midwinter banquet at the Real McCoy's supper club also has been canceled.

• The Waterloo American Legion Post 233's Auxiliary has canceled its 100th anniversary gala set for April 4 at Firemen's Park in Waterloo. All who have purchased tickets will receive a full refund, and any donation designated to the Badger Honor Flight or auxiliary will be given to those organizations.

• The Jefferson Senior Activity Center in Jefferson is closed until further notice for all programs, classes and games due to the COVID-19 health crisis.

The County Senior Dining Congregate program is closed but the Meals on Wheels program for Jefferson is continuing as usual. Call (920) 675-0102 for more information.

• Festival Foods in Fort Atkinson has changed its store hours from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. This will allow employees to clean the store and replenish stock levels.

• Eby Family Dental in Fort Atkinson is following the American Dental Association recommendation to close the dental office until April 6. It will be concentrating on emergency dental appointments only. In the case of an emergency, call Dr. Eby at (920) 650-0377. If this is not a dental emergency, please leave a message and the staff will return the call as soon as possible.

• The Whitewater Unified School District is moving one of its locations for the Grab-and-Go children’s lunches. They will not be offered at West Conger Street. They have moved that location to Lincoln Elementary School.

• The Fort Atkinson Plan Commission has canceled its March 24 meeting.

• The Fort Atkinson Club community center has announced that the first three programs in its FACTalks lecture series have been canceled.

Those include the programs that were slated for March 24, April 7 and April 21.

• The St. Vincent de Paul Store in Jefferson is closed until further notice.

• Crown of Life Christian Academy in Fort Atkinson is closed, per Gov. Tony Evers’ order.

• The Fort Atkinson Food Pantry is planning to stay open during regular distribution hours of 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays at 715 Jones Ave.

‘Our priorities are to continue to provide food to those in need while protecting our clients and volunteers,” the pantry announced. “To accomplish this, we are changing our procedures to limit the number of clients in the food pantry at one time. We will be handing out numbers on a first-come basis, but be prepared to wait outside or in cars until your number is admitted. Arriving later during the serving hours might avoid the initial crowd. Everyone will be able to get food. We are also requiring the use of hand sanitizer in the pantry and disinfecting surfaces frequently.

“The food pantry realizes that some people may be temporarily out of work during this crisis,” it continued. “People who currently have no income or meet our low-income guidelines and need help to provide enough food for themselves or their families are encouraged to seek assistance at the food pantry.”

The Fort Atkinson Food Pantry supplies supplemental food once per month per family. If a family requires additional food assistance before the end of the month, please call (920) 563-6992 and leave a message. If a person is sick or vulnerable to the coronavirus, he or she should not enter the pantry building.

“We have a small program of delivery to those in need,” the pantry stated. “Please text or leave a message at (920) 397-0140 if you want more information about the delivery program.

The Fort Atkinson Food Pantry serves those who reside in the School District of Fort Atkinson. Residents of other school districts should call their local pantries.

• The Humane Society of Jefferson County now is limiting visits to its shelter building to appointment only. For adopters with completed applications, municipalities or residents with a contained stray animal, or for other requests, please call (920) 674-2048 to check on an appointment availability.

It also has postponed its annual Spring Rabies Vaccination Clinic that was scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 21, at the Jefferson County Fair Park.

• At St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, all public Masses are canceled until further notice, as are the Stations of the Cross; Knights of Columbus fish dinners on March 20 and April 10; and Souper Suppers on March 27 and April 3.

The church is open for indivudal prayer Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 8 a.m. to noon; Monday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m to 7 p.m.

Confession is being offered Thursdays, 5 to 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 4 to 5 p.m.; and Sundays, 8 to 9:30 a.m.

The Easter Bible study on evangelization, scheduled on Tuesday nights and Wednesday mornings, has been canceled.

The Council of Catholic Women’s St. Joseph Breakfast, scheduled for Sunday, March 22, has been canceled.

Religious education classes are canceled. They tentatively are scheduled to resume April 15.

• For people unable to attend worship, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson has posted Sundatys’ sermon at https://youtu.be/NCT3KcViMg.

• The Hoard Historical Museum in Fort Atkinson announced Tuesday that it is closed for the next 30 days or until further notice. This includes all programs, including Part 1 of the Mary Hoard Art Show, the Lorine Poetry Reception for fourth-graders and the Morning @ the Museum preschool program.

The office will be open as long as possible. Follow the museum on Facebook to explore local history!

• Jefferson Utilities has closed its lobby window effective.

At this time, it will accept in-person payments through our drive-through and dropbox only.

“We encourage customers to make payments online, over the phone or through automatic withdraw,” staff said. “Please visit our website for payment options. https://www.jeffersonutilities.com/bill-payment-options.

• The Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce has decided to limit lobby hours until further notice. The cChamber will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon.

The chamber is creating a new page on its website focused on COVID-19 updates, business resources, local event cancellations, and more. A direct link will be provided in the following days.

• The Zoning Code Update meeting scheduled for this Thursday, March 19, at 6 p.m. is being postponed to a later date, due to the actions being taken with respect to the coronavirus.

• The American Association of University Women’s History Month program, “Opportunity Runs Through It,” scheduled for March 19 at 7 p.m. at Watertown High School, has been postponed. A rescheduled date will be posted in the near future.

• The U.S. Veterans’ Project Library will not be held during the closure of the Dwight Foster Public Library in Fort Atkinson.

The countywide veterans gathering is open to all area veterans from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays at the library. It will resume after the library reopens to the public.

• The League of Women Voters in Whitewater has canceled its program on the Equal Rights Amendment, slated for March 19 at the Whitewater Municipal Building.

• Koshkonong Mounds Country Club has canceled its 2020 Monday Night Men’s League captains and team sign up meeting. As of now, the start date still is planned for April 20.

• Madison College has closed all its facilities effective today, March 16, at 8 a.m. in response to escalating concerns regarding the continued spread of COVID-19.

All facilities districtwide will be closed to the public and students through March 29. Classes and activities scheduled from March 23-29 are canceled in accordance with the previous announced extension of spring break.

Employees will be receiving additional information via email.

Students currently enrolled in classes will receive next steps regarding their specific course from their faculty in the near future. Students should watch their campus email, visit the college’s website pages devoted to COVID-19 updates or follow news updates provided on the college’s official Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts.

At this time, the college is planning alternative delivery modes of instruction that might not require face-to-face sessions beginning March 30.

• The next Whitewater Public Library Memory Café has been canceled. It would have been held April 13.

At this time, the May Memory Café still is scheduled. A determination if it will be cancelled will be based on CDC guidelines issued around that time.

• The program on the topic of the Equal Rights Amendment to be presented by the League of Women Voters-Whitewater Area has been canceled. It was to be held March 19 at the Whitewater Common Council chambers in the municipal building.

• The Jefferson Eagles Athletic Booster Club in Jefferson has canceled its Spring Fling Craft and Vendor Show that was slated for March 28.

• First United Methodist Church in Fort Atkinson has postponed its April 22 salad luncheon indefinitely.

• The View at Johnson Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care’s grand opening slated for March 28 has been postponed.

• The Fort Atkinson Rotary Club has canceled its Monday noon luncheons for March 16 and 23.

• The 70th annual Fort Atkinson Wisconservation Club banquet set for Monday, March 16, has been postponed until Monday, May 11.

The event, at the Jefferson County Fair Park Activity Center, is from 5:15 to 9:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

• The Friends of the Bark River Fish Hatchery banquet has been postponed until Saturday, May 30.

It will be held at Koshkonong Mounds Country Club. Tickets that have been purchased are good for that date. If the new date does not work, contact a board member for a refund.

• The Fort Atkinson candidate debate slated for Wednesday, Mach 18, has been canceled due to the venue being closed in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Candidates for Fort Atkinson City Council, School District of Fort Atkinson Board of Education and the Fort Atkinson-area districts on the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors had been scheduled to participate in the event, slated for Luther Elementary School in Fort Atkinson.

However, the school district has closed its facilities for any non-school activities.

Sponsors of the debate were the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee and the American Association of University Women, in cooperation with WFAW 940-AM and the Daily Jefferson County Union.

• The Jefferson High School swimming pool, which originally was to be open to the community during spring break March 16-20 for open swim, will remain closed during spring break.

• The Fort Atkinson Lions Club has canceled its 50th annual Smelt and Fish Fry, which had been scheduled for Friday, April 17, at the Fort Atkinson Municipal Building.

Many tickets already had been sold. Buyers can get a refund by contacting the Lions Club member from whom they purchased their tickets or stopping in at the business at which they bought tickets.

Selling tickets were all PremierBank locations, Badger Bank, Goyer Ace Hardware and the Fort Community Credit Union.

• The Daily Jefferson County Union values your health and that of our employees. As public health officials have advised, the newspaper has been taking steps to minimize person-to-person contact and do its part in helping to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Therefore, the paper has closed its to public customer traffic for the time being.

• Local 4-H clubs are being advised to cancel all activities from now through April 10 that could involve more than 50 people, that would involve people from more than one county, or would involve members of an immune-compromised population such as the elderly.

Canceled are the March 16 and 23 dog project meetings and March 19 cat project meeting.

The March 19 Leaders’ Association meeting will be held, but it will take place remotely through Zoom. An email will be sent in the near future with details.

The speech and poster contest originally set for March 30 has been reset for May 4, with the deadline for speech registration and posters being turned in moved back to April 20.

• Due to changes to the UW-Whitewater spring break and on-campus class schedules, the remaining Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Clinic dates have been canceled. • The Whitewater Historical Society has canceled its “Whitewater Collects” event that was to be held on Saturday, March 21, in Whitewater at the Lakefront Community Building, from 1 to 4 p.m.

• Faith Community Church in Fort Atkinson has canceled all church activities until April 5.

• The Jefferson County Courthouse is not providing the following services: passports, Department of Natural Resources licenses, Department of Motor Vehicle services and limited public notary services.
