JEFFERSON — The Jefferson schools' contract with the district's bus company will come at a reduced cost this year, following approval of an updated pact at Monday's board of education meeting.
Laura Peachey, director of business services for the School District of Jefferson, reviewed the proposed transportation contract during the session.
Despite an overall 3-percent rate increase, the total contract comes in $9,623 under last year's contracted cost (not including subsequent COVID-19-related school closures).
The new contract has one less route going to Sullivan Elementary School, eliminates the previous Sullivan parking credit, and adds new language regarding school closures beyond the usual "inclement weather" days.
The route change took effect at the start of the school year Sept. 3.
Asked by a school board member how the new route structure is working out at Sullivan, Laura Peachey, director of business services for the Jefferson schools, said that it has been going smoothly, so the change seems to be working out well.
