The Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce and presenting sponsors, Griffin Ford Lincoln of Fort Atkinson and Griffin Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Jefferson, announce that Rhythm on the River will celebrate its 17th anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 5 to 11 p.m. in downtown Fort Atkinson.

This year, Rhythm on the River is themed “Fort’s Rockin’ Rewind” to showcase the local rock bands that started in Fort Atkinson. There will be plenty of good food, beverages, music, entertainment and fun.

The night will start with a “Taste of Fort” featuring tasty menu items by local food vendors including Flying Cow Pizza, serving wood-fired pizzas; Frostie Freeze, root beer floats, ice cream sandwiches, Frostie Bars, chocolate-covered bananas; Doyle’s Dogs, serving Chicago-style hotdogs, brats, polish pickles and chips;

Also, Island Bar & Grill, serving chicken and waffles; Sammy’s Place, serving gyros, Sammy’s Chicken: grilled chicken and veggies wrapped in pita, corn-on-the cob, nachos and cheese; Beauty and the Bean, serving coffee, lemonade and dessert bars.

Kicking off the night’s entertainment is the rock ‘n roll band Altar Boy Picnic performing from 5 to 6:45 p.m.

At 7 p.m., headliners Wade Root and the Flashback and Apex will alternate until 11 p.m., bringing back favorite rock hits from the ’70s and ’80s.

The children’s activities this year include airbrush tattoos and custom balloon animals from Pop Art Entertainment, photos with the sponsors’ mascots, and a musical instrument arts and craft project with assistance from Evergreen Studio, available from 5 to 8 p.m.

Rhythm on the River is the largest annual fundraising event for the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce and continues to be an end-of-summer community celebration.

The chamber’s goal is to deliver a quality event with free admission to the public.

For the safety of the general public, carry-in and carry-out beverages are not permitted, and pets should be left at home. Beverage tickets are sold in $1 increments and can be used to purchase soda, $2; water, $1; domestic beer, $3; craft beers and seltzers, $4 each; and wine, $5.

Food purchases are cash only. New this year, PremierBank is sponsoring two ATMs that will be located conveniently near each ticket booth.
