MISSION, Texas — John Edward “Huggy” Behrend, a former Fort Atkinson, Wis. resident, passed away on May 25, 2019 in Mission, Texas.

John was born June 25, 1938, to Edward and Edna Behrend.

He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School.

He attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater when he was called to active duty as a part of the Wisconsin National Guard.

He worked at the Wisconsin Electric Company until 1994. He then worked at AccuRate Inc. until he fully retired.

John was active in the Fort Atkinson Wisconservation Club. He served two terms as District No. 7 state director of the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation. He was a long-time member of the Koshkonong Mounds County Club.

John married Susan Lee on Aug. 30, 1969. She preceded him in death.

John is survived by his son, Michael Behrend; and Sue’s daughters, Sharon Lueck, Janet Amundson, Sonia Congdon, Linda Cates and Mary Griegel; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, LouAnn Meier; and four nieces.

A celebration of life will be held on July 27 at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson. Everyone is invited to gather at the Koshkonong Mounds Country Club following the cemetery to share memories and toast Huggy.
