Family Fun Day Aug. 24
Editor, Daily Union: Mark your calendars, as you are invited!
Jefferson’s Reinhardt-Windl Post 164 of the American Legion is hosting a Family Fun Day Saturday, Aug. 24, at the VFW/Recreation Center across from the Kwik Trip in Jefferson (behind Walmart).
This is a major fundraiser for our post. We have set it up to be very kid- and family-friendly, so please come and join us. Both parents and kids will have a good time.
The day starts at 8 a.m. with registration for a 5k run-walk that starts at 9 a.m. Cost is adults, $25, and kids, $15, with T-shirts included in the entry fee.
After the run, there will be many activities for all to enjoy: A bouncy house for the small kids, an inflatable 95-foot obstacle course for all, a 24-foot rock climbing wall, all to enjoy for a $10 wristband. You can purchase a $5 ticket for a one-time through, but the $10 lets you enjoy the whole day. There will be many free games for kids with prizes. We also have a face painter and she says she has many new stencils to choose from; this is also free.
We will have a plate lunch available for $5. Your choice of a brat, hotdog or ham sandwich, chips, and choice of water or soda. We also will have the big Bon Ton cookies for sale for three for $2. Most sell them for $1 a cookie. There is also a cash bar for those that would like an adult beverage.
We also will be doing a 50-50 raffle all day with the drawing to be held about 3:30 p.m. Tickets probably are $1 each or six for $5. You do not have to be present to win. Just put your name and phone number on the ticket and we will notify you. (Just make sure we can read the ticket.) We also have many things for a raffle; just about everyone of these items are worth over $100. Tickets will be $5 or three tickets for $10. We will also have music playing all day.
There will be a Jefferson Police Department officer and squad available for you to ask questions and look inside the car. Also, we are hoping to have the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT vehicle and officer, and Jefferson County K-9 Unit and have him give a demonstration with the dog. If you have never seen this before, I know you will enjoy this. These dogs are very well trained.
After the dog demo, we are planning a martial arts demonstration. This too should be a must see. We will also have a Jefferson fire truck and ambulance on site for you to look at.
So please come and join us for a day of fun for the whole family. I know the kids will enjoy themselves as there will be many things for them to do at no cost. If you are worried about Rhythm on the River that evening in Fort Atkinson, clear your mind.
Our activities will be done before 4 p.m. so you can even go home for a little rest.
Come check us out and let us know what you think. This is just our third year and we are always open to suggestions to improve this. We just want everyone to have a good time and want to come back again next year. Hope to see many of you on the 24th.
And you kids, encourage your parents to bring you as there are many things for you to enjoy and many different prizes for you to win. — Robby Robinson, commander, Jefferson American Legion Post 164.
