Pope Path groundbreaking 2

Pam Chickering Wilson

Although actual excavation for the Pope Path project at West Elementary School will not start for a couple of weeks, the official groundbreaking for the walking trail took place on Friday, the last day of school, so that students could take part. The path, named after Nancy Pope, a West teacher who died unexpectedly in the middle of the school year two years ago, will be ready with a first-stage gravel surface in the fall, with Phase II and blacktopping to take place next year. Pictured here, students outline the planned path route and link hands to form a visual representation of what it will look like when complete.
