CAMBRIDGE — Owen Chady got the job done at the plate and on the mound Sunday for Fort Atkinson.

The Generals defeated Cambridge, 6-1, in a Home Talent Sunday League game Sunday afternoon at Cambridge High School.

Chady tossed a complete game on the mound, striking out nine batters in the process.

Chady also proved to be potent at the plate. The starting pitcher drove in four of the Generals’ six runs to lead the Fort Atkinson offense.

“Owen’s pitching today was definitely the most impressive part,” Fort Atkinson manager Sam Hartwick said. “He showed really solid control of all his pitches and didn’t walk a single bater while getting a lot of swinging strikes.”

The top of the third was the Generals big inning, as Fort Atkinson scored five runs. Chady tripled with the bases loaded in the inning to score three runs.

Despite winning comfortably, 6-1, Fort Atkinson was outhit 10-9 in the game.

“Chady didn’t give up any extra-base hits and our defense played a clean game with no errors,” Hartwick said. “When we do those two things, it allows us to effectively bend, but not break.”

Ty Schieber and Dan Dean both picked up two hits for Fort Atkinson. Schieber also scored twice for the Generals.

Jens Notstad went 2 for 4 at the plate and batted in the Blues’ only run of the game. Zach Haugen also collected two hits for Cambridge.

The win keeps the Generals (7-3) in fourth place in the Southeast Section standings. The loss drops Cambridge to 2-7 on the season.

The next game scheduled for Fort Atkinson is on Saturday at Jefferson (8-2). Game time is set for 1 p.m.

“We’re a confident group going into Jefferson. They’re definitely one of the best teams in all of Home Talent and everyone in their lineup can hit,” Hartwick said. “However, we think that with our pitching and our bats we can compete with anyone. It will definitely be a high-energy game for us.”

Cambridge is set to play Southeast-leading Albion (10-1) at noon on Saturday.
