JEFFERSON — The Generals scored six runs in the top of the first inning and Austin Paul pitched a complete-game shutout as Fort Atkinson cruised to a 11-0 win over Jefferson in a Home Talent Night League game Thursday at Fischer Field in Jefferson.

“Getting six right away takes some stress out of the game,” Fort Atkinson manager Sam Hartwick said. “Austin pitched very well. He pitched like somebody who had a big lead to work with. He threw strikes, he didn’t give up a lot of walks.”

Dayne Sebranek drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single. The Generals got the bases loaded with no outs and Dan Dean singled in another score.

Danny Tabaska knocked in two more runs in the inning with a single and Dean scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.

Cory Schoenherr drove in the final run of the six-run first with an RBI single.

“Fort came ready to play,” Jefferson manager Ryan Wagner said. “I wouldn’t say we didn’t come ready to play, because we did, but we just gave them a couple walks, then they got a couple hits and got on the board. They’re a good team.”

Sebranek and Dean got their second RBIs of the game in the second inning with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, respectively.

The Generals continued the early offensive onslaught with three runs in the top of the third to make it 11-0 after three.

Paul pitched all five innings of the game, surrendering three hits and striking out two.

The result was a bit different than last season for Paul and Fort Atkinson, who took a double-digit defeat at the hands of Jefferson in their Night League game at Fischer Field.

“We lost here 12-0 and Austin pitched that game,” Hartwick said. “We used that game as a little inspiration.”

It was the first time this season Jefferson was blanked in Night League play.

“We haven’t hit the ball well recently,” Wagner said. “Hopefully we can get back to the way we were playing before playoffs start.”

The win puts the Generals at 5-1 in Night League play, tied at the top of the East Section standings with Cottage Grove. The Blue Devils fall to 3-4.
